No Critics. No Walls. No Rules | The Dr Martens signature silhouette is providing a new canvas. Paying homage to the most iconic pieces of Japanese art.
The Dr Martens X THE MET 1461 shoe is inspired by Fuji from Gotenyama at Shinagawa on the Tōkaidō painted roughly between 1830-1832. The shoes feature Masterpiece leather uppers, leather/textile inners, 3 pairs of antique gold eyelets and are built upon the classic AirWair Bouncing sole. The Fuji 1461 shoes are fastened together with round pale pink tonal laces with antique gold aglets and are highlighted by the iconic Goodyear construction with yellow z welt stitching.
Masterpiece is a coated leather with a fine grain texture, designed to imitate the feel of art canvases.
From the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (Fugaku sanjūrokkei)
The Tōkaidō Shinagawa Gotenyama no Fuji painting pictures a merry scene of cherry-blossom viewing at Gotenyama, the hill north of Shinagawa. Shinagawa was the first of fifty three stations of the Tōkaidō Road. In this scene, Hokusai paints this famous hill with its cherry trees in full bloom. The scene also features the awesome Mount Fuji in the background sitting behind the iconic cherry blossom trees.
