Back in 1962 Havaianas created the original rubber flip flop and have never looked back. The very first design was inspired by Japanese sandals known as Zori, made of a thin rice straw sole and fabric thongs. To adapt the Japanese model to the Brazilian market, São Paulo Alpargatas used rubber as raw material and the rice grain format for the sole texture. The name Havaianas was inspired by the island of Hawaii, representing warm climates, freedom, and a simple relaxed lifestyle.

Today the Brazilian based company sell 173 million pairs annually, and the current line has 79 different styles for men, women, children and even babies. All Havaianas flip flops are manufactured in Campina Grande in North East Brazil and remain a classic choice for relaxed summer footwear across the globe.
