Back in 1962 Havaianas created the original rubber flip flop and have never looked back. The very first design was inspired by Japanese sandals known as Zori, made of a thin rice straw sole and fabric thongs. To adapt the Japanese model to the Brazilian market, Săo Paulo Alpargatas used rubber as raw material and the rice grain format for the sole texture. The name Havaianas was inspired by the island of Hawaii, representing warm climates, freedom, and a simple relaxed lifestyle.
