  Merrell shoes were first conceived in 1981 when the company was launched with an aim to produce a range of more affordable, high performance walking boots than was available at the time. R.J. Merrell had already received some small acclaim by making custom walking boots for his customers, however the high price of these and making each boot bespoke was limiting the opportunity.

Although R.J. Merrell left the company 6 years later he did put a permanent stamp of quality and style on the brand which has carried through to the present day. This brand has a long history of creating fantastic walking boots and it's easy to see that the high quality and incredible style has remained with the company.
